Casa Cantoniera (roadman's house) Palau Sardinia

ANAS (formerly Azienda Nazionale Autonoma delle Strade, English: National Autonomous Roads Corporation) is an Italian government-owned company deputed to the construction and maintenance of Italian motorway and state highways under the control of Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. The Royal Decree of the king of Sardinia, Carlo Felice, of 13 April 1830 establishes the figure of the roadman , entrusting him with the task of maintaining and controlling a ' canton' of the road (a stretch of 3-4 kilometers). To carry out these tasks, the roadmen had to live in houses located on the edge of each canton. Thus was born the Casa Cantoniera.
