AMRI (1784-1803). Amici gives an excellentfigure of the structure of striated muscle (Virchows Archiv, XVI.,1859), but he used the muscles of insects as ;i test-object for hismicroscopes. His name is associated with the stria of Amici,with immersion lenses, and, along with that of Mr. Lister, withachromatic lenses. Closely linked with muscular contraction are the movementsof protoplasm, animal and vegetable. We recall the work- ofDujardin, H. von Mohl, Wharton Jones, Al. Schultze, &c. I haveassociated the portraits of Amici and Corti. Both belong to theschool of Modena. W. Kiihne, in one of his latest papers, Die.
