Theform of some animal is the ordinary patternfor such a badge of honor. About an hour is occupied in executing apatch of tattoo not quite three inches square,and when this is done, the lad rises andanother takes his place. In a week or so, theturn of the first lad comes round again, andso the process is continued for three or fourmonths, according to the number of thepatients, not more than five being operatedon in a single day.
