Ribston (Ribston Pippin).—Origin, Ribston Hall, near Knares-borough, England, probably about KiSS; highly esteemed in Eng-land, but not equal to some other varieties as grown in the EasternStates; tree spreading, productive, an early Fruit medimn to large, roundish, slightly conical; surface rough,greenish, shaded and striped with dull red on sunny side, with o]iennet-work of russet; dots obscure, gray or russet, few; cavity ratherwide rather shallow, somewhat acuminate, often with large stellaterusset patch; stem short; basin abrupt, medium, angular and ribbed, 16R SYSTEMATIC POMOLOGY russeted; calyx closed, small.
