ZANTARAM VILLAGE, 5 kms WEST OF GUIDAM IDER, NIGER, 27TH JULY 2010: Ramot Ali, 20, (right) has cooked local weeds to feed her and her family, sprinkled with the grinds of one or two peanuts. They have eaten nothing else for six days. She is not producing enough milk to feed her 6 month old son Yousifer. The weeds, must also sustain her two ndaughter Fatimu, 22 months, and Zenab ,3, as well as her husband Idrissa. Many in her village are eating the weeds, known locally as Garsia, as they have nothing else. Photo by Mike Goldwater / Christian Aid
