The cover of "Round About the Crooked Steeple" the most successful book by "Simon Evans 1895 – 1940), a postman with the GPO who developed a reputation in the 1930s as a writer and broadcaster on country life. His stories covered his 18 mile rural postal round, in and around Cleobury Mortimer, South Shropshire, England. A job he took to relieve respiratory injuries sustained when gassed during the First World War, however he died from illness in 1940. His round is commemorated by the "Simon Evans Way" long distance path.
