DOVE, Thomas, marine painter, began life as ahouse painter, but later entered the studio ofGeorge Chambers, with whom he worked for sometime. His pictures were chiefly scenes fromLiverpool or its neighbourhood, and he becamewell known in the north of England. Reduced topoverty in his old age, he died in the Whitbyworkhouse in January 1887.
