It was a wise caterpillar, however, for it knew that such a conspicuous covering was un- desirable, so it wove the saw- dust in with the silk, and when the task was finished the sharpest of eyes could scarcely dis- cover the aperture through which, later, a gay little moth, with eight lemon disks on its black velvet wings, and orange knee-breeches beneath, would emerge.
