Nothing carries senti- ment, or is so appropriate for the pur- pose, as flowers. So with this fact be- fore them the trade should get together and boost the business of this day and make it one of the greatest floral holi- days. There are many acknowledged good things w-hich are passed by un- noticed, because attention is not called to them. Let this not be the case with Valentine's day this year. Make a noise about it; arrange to have the stock, then advertise; wide awake members of the trade in a community should get together and use papers collectively or if not advertise individ- ually; circularize your trade; make your windows do double duty; be pre- pared for a large trade and it will come to you. The accompanying illustrations are of a few arrangements appropriate to the day. The heart-shaped basket made quite a hit last season when nicely filled and decorated with arrows, rib- bons, heart-shaped motto cards and cu- pids. There is no question but it be- longs to the day. The heart-shaped hamper is also very appropriate, but no illustration can do it justice, as it must be seen on all sides to get the proper effect. The small, outline hearts, made of red Japanese frieze, trimmed with silvered burrs and ruscus, red rib- bon, with heart cupids, is a very pretty novelty, suitable for the windows of the limousine or for milady's bureau or writing desk.
