Brain variation. Coloured composite three- dimensional scan of the variation in human brain structure. It was created from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of 20 healthy brains. The front of the brain is at right. The amount of variation is shown by colour-coded ovals that range from pink (greatest), through green, to blue. The personality centres in the frontal lobe (centre left) vary considerably from person to person, while areas responsible for low-level functions vary little. This scan was produced at the Laboratory of Neuro Imaging (LONI) at UCLA, USA.
