Sombrero galaxy. Optical image of the Sombrero galaxy (M104, NGC 4594). This spiral galaxy lies 50 million light years away in the constellation Virgo. The galaxy is seen almost edge-on. The dark stripe running across it is due to dust lying in the plane of the galaxy. This image was made by the UH8K CCD camera on the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, USA.
