The ceremony was the last event of the five-day commemoration remembering the WWII Philippine Battle of Bataan fought against the Japanese from January 7, 1942 to April 9, 1942 and the Bataan Death March, April 9, 1942, when 76,000 Prisoners of War were forced to walk 65 miles under horrific conditions to Camp O'Donnell. Bataan and its ready group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations designed to reassure allies and partners, and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce through the region.
