Church of St Eustache (Rue Montmartre)


The view taken in 1828, shows the Church of St Eustache (Rue Montmartre) originally a chapel dedicated to St Agnes. Gothic architecture was embellished with Arabic and Greek architecture in this church. The portico was designed by Mansard de Jouy and finished by Moreau. The pulpit was designed by Lebrun. The church contained the tombs of Colbert, La Fosse the painter,Vaugelas, and Admiral Tourville. The tomb of Colbert was moved to the Musee des Monumens Francais. The monument has full sized statues of Plenty, Religion, Joseph distributing corn and Daniel delivering the commands of Darius to the Persian Council. The image was drawn by A Shaw under the direction of A Pugin and engraved by J Havell
