Monetary inflation in Europe after World War II. French bank dispensing large amounts of cash during a period of monetary inflation in Europe after World War II. The economic effects of the war led to inflation, which meant that prices rose rapidly and large amounts of cash were needed to purchase everyday goods. To counteract this effect, the Marshall Plan provided aid from the USA to post-war Europe. Aid was provided from 1948 to 1952. This photograph, showing an employee of the SMC (Societe Marseillaise de Credit) bank, dates from the period 1948 to 1967.
