Berners-Lee studied at Oxford University. After working in industry he moved to CERN (the European particle physics laboratory) near Geneva, Switzerland. There he developed the World Wide Web, a global network for information sharing based on hypertext documents. Berners-Lee was knighted in 2004. Photographed at CERN on 11 March 2019, during celebrations of 30 years of the World Wide Web.
