This institution was founded in 1868, incorporated in 1872,and has been on its present site since 1888. The hospital occu-. St. Eliza-beths is a general hospital of about one hundred beds. It hasmedical, surgical and gynecological and obstetrical wards,besides the usual out-patient departments. This institution hasbeen an important factor in the development of gynecology GUIDE TO BOSTON 41 in this community. At present only women and children areadmitted as ward patients. The number of ward patients treatedis between eight and nine hundred annually. Connected withthe hospital is a training school for nurses.
