Burial of the late King of Denmark: the coffin being borne to the mausoleum at the close of the funeral service in Roeskilde Catheral, 1864. 'At half-past ten , after the arrival of his Majesty King Christian and all the Royal Princes, the procession was marshalled, and proceeded on foot to the superb and venerable cathedral, and were met at the principal porch by the Bishop of Iceland and a numerous body of clergy, who preceded the procession to the high altar, below which the sarcophagus was placed. The cathedral, where the Diplomatic Body had previously assembled, was soon thronged, and the funeral service commenced with a cantata of great power, after which Bishop Martensen, primate of the Danish clergy, preached most impressively, and, after the coffin had been removed to the Royal mausoleum, concluded with prayers and the benediction. The cathedral of Roeskilde contains the ashes of nearly all the Kings of the family of Oldenburg who, during four centuries, have reigned over the Danish monarchy; and now it has received the mortal remains of Frederick VII., who was the last King of the ancient dynasty'.
