Berlin, a fairy tale dream castle / Mansion, in Berlin Biesdorf, Germany Now a museum, and located on the outskirts of Berlin. Schloss Biesdorf is a late-classical villa that is recognisable from afar thanks to its distinctive octagonal tower. The villa has had a colourful history. It was built in 1868 on the site of a former knightly manor and was sold several times until it came into the possession of industrialist and inventor of electrical engineering Werner von Siemens in 1887. His son, Wilhelm von Siemens, had the gardens expanded. Later, the villa fell into a period of neglect, culminating in a 1945 fire which destroyed the entire top floor. The villa and the gardens have some unique architectural features: major architects such as Martin Gropius and Heino Schmieden worked on the villa. The villa's dyed screed cement façade is unique among historical buildings in Berlin. Renowned landscape architect Alfred Brodersen designed the garden in the English style. The gardens also contain a historic ice house with outdoor stairwells, a tea pavilion and a reading garden. The gardens are also known for being the site of Biesdorf park stage and the Biesdorfer Blütenfest (Blossom Festival Biesdorf), a flower festival that takes place each year. The upper storey of Schloss Biesdorf was being rebuilt in 2015.
