Others of a similar kind are foundin the most ancient Cyclopian cities of Greece and Italy. Theremains of some are observed at Argos, and others are seen amongstthe ancient cities of Cora, Norba, Signia, and Alatrium, in Italy, the walls of which resemble those of Tiryns, Argos, and Mycenae. All the exterior walls of Tiryns are composed of rough stones : thelargest which I measured was nine feet four inches in length, andfour feet in thickness; their usual size is from three feet to walls, when entire, were probably not less than sixty feet inheight; at least so it would appear from the quantity of stoneswhich have fallen to the ground. Tiryns was destroyed by theArgians, as well as Mycenae, about 468 years before Christ. Within the acropolis
