But it is to be noted, that aside from the magical nameAbraxas, line 4, other names are used, as Abbahu, line 4, andPharnagln, line 6, names that seem to belong to some famouspersons and now are used as charms against evil powers. Ascharms are also mentioned tJie great seal of Shaddai\ andthe golden breastplate (or glory?) of SebaOth^\ line 2. Especially to be noted is the occurrence in this Jewish in-cantation text of the Gnostic name Abraxas (see note 20), being,as far as I know, the first text of this character in which this. Pict. I.
