Japanese woodcut printed on paper by By Utagawa Kunisada, Japan, 1833. Woman with a demon mask among the clouds. A female demon holds a demon mask on a rainy night. The woman is played by actor Segawa Kikunoj™ V (1802-32) in the kabuki play Modoribashi. This play is based on the N™h play 'Rash™mon', in which a man, Watanabe no Tsuna, meets a woman at the Ichij™ Modori bridge. He recognizes the woman as a demon and when she tries to kidnap him he cuts off her arm, after which she flies away. This is the top sheet of a vertical diptych. With one poem.
