Realizing theneed for giving to the people an accurate and per-fect version of the Scriptures in their own tongue,a revision committee, consisting of eight Euro-peans, representing five denominations, and threenatives, was appointed on the financial responsibil-ity of the British and Foreign Bible Society, andbegan its work in December, 1873. Their laborsoccupied nearly fourteen years, being completedon April 30th, 1887.
