She is the "Mt. ; survey vessels. The others aretheUSC&GSS "Fairweather" and "; Two larger vessels were built in Jacksonville before the Mt. Mitchell: the USC&GSS "Oceanogra- pher" and "Discoverer," for ocean surveys in the Pacific and Atlantic. The $ million, 231-foot, 1,660-ton, white-hulled Mt. Mitchell will take part in the Coast and Geodetic Survey's long- range program of marine charting and scien- tific exploration in the Atlantic. The ship can cruise 8,000 miles and carry 79 officers, crew, and scientists. Her pri- mary function will be to conduct hydrographic surveys in coastal waters in the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico. She also has sonae equipment for oceanographic USC&GSS Mt. Mitchell. The Mt.
