JOHN FINLAYSON, OF ANCILLA, JEFFERSON COUNTY, FLORIDA. Hon. John Finlayson was born in Marlboro District, South Caro-lina, ou the 9th of July, 1810. His father, Daniel Finlayson, who wasa native of Scotland, emigrated to this country in the year 1800, whenonly eighteen years of age. Being very poor, he worked for some years,as a common laborer, on Cape Fear river, between Wilmington, wherehe first landed, and Fayetteville. He married Christiana McRae, ofMarlboro District, by whom he had three children, the subject of thismemoir being the eldest. When John was eight years old, his fatherremoved to Georgia and settled in the county of Telfair; then one ofthe frontier counties, bordering ou the Indian territories, and inhabitedprinc
