Fettercairn, Scotland, UK. 9th April, 2014. Farm workers or 'Roguers' checking growth and removing unwanted and diseased plant hybrids from the rows of Narcissus 'Charlton' Daffodils bulbs which are grown commercially in this area for export and the UK market. The bulbs are usually harvested in June and at this time of the year are inspected for fungal infection, grown rogue hybrids and quality, prior to inspection and grading. The majority of the crop being purchased by Grampian Growers.

In preparing bulbs for commercial buyers, they have to be of one specific particular hybrid, and not mixed. Any bulbs not wanted are known as 'rogue' and are removed prior the crop being allowed to grow to full maturity, when the bulbs are mechanically lifted, dried, treated and sold on to the purchaser.
