Thiscondition emphasizes the sourcefrom which the cemental matrixi if a vital apex, and possibly apicalpulp-shreds and vessels, are nour-ished ; for they are thereby intouch with serologic factors, whichnot only fight infection, but pre-vent it. It is a most hopefulfeature; but, when once thislabyrinth is infected, these linesof communication become path-ways by which sepsis passes intothe apical periodontium, destroy-ing and detaching it, and creatinga thoroughly septic, necrotic, apexand periapical disease. (E) There is the further factthat this means of communication. Figure I—Toldts Anatomy, Part IV, Page 426.
