He was in search of the Black Knight and determined to kill him. So he had ridden into the wood where he lived, found a marble platform, in the middle of which was a sunken space hoplding a fountain, Then, following directions in the writing on the stone, he picked up a cup that lay there, and filled it with waterm and then poured the water into the fountain. A great storm arose and the Black Knight appeared and attacked Ivaine. There are many versions to Arthurian legend. The illustration dates to 1916.
