Red-winged parrot (Aprosmictus erythropterus), museum specimen. This species is native to Australia and Papua New Guinea. Both genders have red wings and a bright green body. The male bird shown here has a bright blue patch on its back that reflects strongly in ultraviolet light. Birds can see both normal wavelengths of visible light and ultraviolet wavelengths as they have tetrachromatic vision. See image Z860/062 to see the parrot under ultraviolet light.
