Mr. Semple was a son of the Rev. Samuel Semple,pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Newcastle, Pa. Hewas one of ten children, and was born July 7, 1810. Hewas graduated from Jefferson College, Canonsburg, Pa.,in 1837, and from the Western Theological Seminary atAllegheny, Pa., in 1840.
