Menz obtained his elemen-tary education in the Fatherland, which wassupplemented by a course in the Englishbranches after coming to America. He grew toiiiaturity on his fathers farm, and on Oct. 25,1SS4, married Miss Emma L. Wiener, daughterof Ernst Wiener, a retired farmer who settledin Lee County in 1858. Mr. and Mrs. Menzare the parents of the following named child-ren: Lily, Annie, Hilda Eliza, Olive Mattie,and Minnie Dora,(who died in 1896, aged sevenyears). In political views Mr. Menz is a Repub-lican and is now serving as Township Treas-urer, having filled that office for the past sixyears; has also served as Township Collectorand School Director. Fraternally he belongsto the Masonic Order, Mystic Shrine, KnightsTemplar, B. P. O. E. E., M. W. A., and DixonCommandery. He and his wife are membersof the Evangelical church. Mr
