Some of the cases were verydifficult; all were serious operations. In the thigh solidbony union was obtained in six of the cases, a splendidresult. In one, a fracture of neck of femur, the union wasonly fibrous, but the patient could subsequently walk with-out the aid of crutches. An objection urged against the antiseptic method inthe treatment of these cases of non-union, is that the local 198 ANTISEPTIC SURGERY. reaction is so slight that it does not sufficiently provoke thereparative processes necessary for the consolidation of thefracture. To obviate this difficulty it has been suggested toremove the antiseptic dressing after some days.
