After receiving his education, Mr. Spalding entered the storeof his father, and in 1861 secured employment in Lawrence, 1865 he moved to the west, residing for four years in Colum-bus, Ohio; thence to Iowa, where for several years he was con-nected with the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad (nowthe Chicago,.Burlington & Quincy Railroad). In 1872 Mr. Spalding moved to Michigan, where he subse-quently engaged in the lumber business, and for the past ten yearshas been in the wholesale lumber business at Philadelphia. No
