The anecdote Iam about to insert relates to the time when Rao Durjansal wasprince of Kotah, and the post of Faujdar was held by a RathorRajput, Jai Singh of Gagorni. Through the influence of thisfaujdar, Guman was deprived of the honour of defending the pass,and his estate sequestrated. He was proceeding homeward witha heavy heart from the presence of his sovereign, when he met thefaujdar with his train [739]. It was dark, and a torch-bearerpreceded him, whom Guman dashed to the earth, and with hisiron lance transfixed the Rathor to his palki.
