Squamous cell carcinoma skin cancer


Close-up of a well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of a 63 year old female patient. SCC is a form of skin cancer that arises from squamous cells - flat scale-like cells in the upper layers of the skin. It is the second most common type of skin cancer and mostly affects the elderly. Treatment is with surgical removal of the tumour, combined with radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
