Summer View Through Arched Canon Port of Kingswear, River Dart, and Boats; Bayards Cove Fort, Dartmouth, Devon, England.

View looking through an arched canon port in the historic fortified wall at Bayards Cove fort Dartmouth, Devon. Three boats are moored on the River Dart. Beyond is the marina, quay and passenger jetty at Kingswear. Bayard's Cove fort was built at the narrowest part of the River Dart estuary in 1534 to protect the busy port. At ground level are a series of gun ports with commanding views which can be explored today. There would have been steps to an upper walk way, a view point and location to fire muskets at potential marauders. The waterfront setting along the Quay approach to the fort is a very popular location for film makers. The view beyond is that includes the Lower Ferry slipway and moored boats. This waterfront setting is a very popular location for film makers. Views along this West Country estuary are stunning and can be best viewed from the river.
