On the 22nd the General issued aproclamation to his troops, reminding them that. they were performing a duty to their countr}-,and bidding them lay aside all feeling of hostilityas soon as the victory was won. They werespecially enjoined to respect all churches andbuildings used in the service of religion, and tosee that no injury was done to non-combatantsor to private property. That evening Colonel Zieglers divisionbivouacked in the Freiamt, right up to thefrontier of Lucerne. It was a clear night, andround the Lake of Zug they could see the watch-fires of the fifth division, vrhich was now occupy-ing that canton. In the early morning of the 23 rd the Aargauengineers threw abridge of boats overthe Reuss at Sins,another being placeda couple of mileshigher up, at Ober-riiti.
