Old mud hoppers near Ell Meadow L and L canal, winter works have meant lower water levels revealing old sunken and abandoned mud hoppers.

Cw 7391 Old mud hoppers near Ell Meadow L and L Winter works are underway around the canal system. The works tend to start at this time of the year as boats are moving about less. To the west of Wigan gates are being replaced on Ell Meadow lock, no 89 on the Leeds and Liverpool canal. The water level in the lock pound between Ell Meadow and the next lock along, Pagefield has been allowed to drop and has exposed the rusting remains of these mud hoppers n the wider bit, the flashes, of the canal.
