Blue sky portrait ulica Zlota at aleja Jana Pawla 11, past Zlota 44 skyscraper, to Palace of Culture and Science, Warsaw, Poland

The Palace of Culture and Science (Palac Kultury i Nauki, abbreviated PKiN), including a 43 m high spire, is the tallest building in Poland and, at 231 m (758 ft), the eighth tallest building in the EU. Built 1952-1955, it was conceived as 'gift from the Soviet people to the Polish nation'. It is a mix of Stalinist architecture, Polish architectural elements and inspirations from American art deco skyscrapers. The Rolling Stones gave a concert here in 1967, the first by a major western rock group behind the Iron Curtain. Four m clock faces were added to the top of the building for the Millennium Celebrations in 2000. The building currently houses four theatres, a multiplex cinema with eight screens, two museums, offices, bookshops, a large swimming pool, an auditorium hall for 3000 people and an accredited university on the 11th and 12th floors. The Observation Terrace on the 30th floor, at a height of 114 m, gives excellent panoramic views of the city. Portrait shot to the Palace from ulica Zlota at aleja Jana Pawla 11. The crescent-shape building on the right is the Office Lumen retail and leisure building. The residential 'Zlota 44' skyscraper stands on the left side of the street. This 192 m high, 52 storeys residential skyscraper was designed by Polish-born, American architect, Daniel Libeskind. With 287 apartments, it is the third tallest building in Poland.
