Iordered the horsetaken to theshop, and accus-tomed to thesparks and ham-mering ; to be treated kindly, giving apples, etc. • also to be shod afew times outside the shop, to make sure of his docility. To show the simplicity of what may appear difficult, it is worthyof mention that at the same place, a party of three men — a fatherand two sons — were employed over three hours in trying to lead asix-year-old colt, pulling, pushing, and backing him by main force,to the place of exhibition, a distance of not over one fourth of amile. The conditions were that I must make him follow me freelyacross the b^n floor. A few sharp pulls with the War Bridle weresufficient to make the horse run after me, not requiring in all morethan two minutes, proving so conclusively the ignorance and badmanagement of the parties that they were laughed at and ridiculedby the entire class.
