During the Russo-Japanese War, commander of Japanese heavy artillery for the Japanese 2nd Army. Later he commanded the artillery in the Japanese 4th Army, and the Manchurian Army, in the Battle of Mukden. After the war, he commanded In June 1913, he became Minister of War.
