L&YR Class 27 0-6-0 and a Belgian Class 25 0-6-0 at Rouxmesnil, France with the ROD during the Great War
32 Class 27 0-6-0 locomotives of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway were transferred to the Western Front in early 1917. They had a poor reputation, especially those that exchanged their 6-wheel tenders for 8-wheel ones off LNWR 0-8-0s. 472 Belgian Type 25 0-6-0s with 4ft 3in wheels were built between 1884 and 1898 and approximately 30 were used by the ROD during the war. 70 Baldwin 0-4-0ST were built for use in France and 2 ( & 88) were at Rouxmesnil. During the Great War Base Depots were established at the Channel Ports in France and at other places on the lines of communication. They had a variety of purposes The depot at Rouxmesnil, near Dieppe, was established in 1916 as an Ammunition Depot
