Tibetan new year at Bodhnath stupa. Also known as boudhanath

Boudha or Bodhanath is a world heritage site situated on the north east outskirts of Kathmandu. It is one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world and the largest in Nepal. It lies on the ancient trade route between Kathmandu and Lhasa and has always been associated with Tibetan Buddhism. There has been a stupa on the site for over 1000 years and most probably built 600AD. This photo was taken in October 2004 with more prayer flags out than usual as Tibetan new year had just been celebrated. Also known as boudhanath
