S., where he died Novem-ber 7, 1822, aged 72 years, without JAME8 NOBLE AND CHLOE (AVER) SHANNON. At the request of the compiler the following biographicalsketch of James Noble Shannon was furnished by his grand-nephew, Hon. Samuel Leonard Shannon, Q. C, D. C. L., ofHalifax, N. S. : James Noble Shannon, the granduncle of the writer, was born inPortsmouth, New Hampshire, the precise date of his birth is unknown tome; he was baptized September 15th, 1751. He was well educated, andhis penmanship, of which I have many specimens, shows that in this par-ticular at least he was well trained. He was named for his uncle JamesNoble, a Boston merchant, who had married his mothers sister, and whowas reputed to be wealthy. It would appear that in his early years hespent some time with his uncle Noble, and may have been educated at hisexpense.
