Star kachina with eagle feathers & claws: a Pueblo war symbol with other ceremonial figures, Petroglyph National Monument, Albuquerque, New Mexico, US

Star kachina with eagle feathers and claws: a Pueblo war symbol carved, with other ceremonial figures/anthropomorphs, on basalt rocks at Boca Negra Canyon, Petroglyph National Monument, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. Thousands of Rio Grande Style images were carved on the boulders and cliff faces of the West Mesa volcanic escarpment and rock slopes in the period c AD1100 to c AD1600. Kachina masks and costumes are used in Pueblo ceremonies to represent the physical manifestations of divine beings, ancestral spirits, essenses or concepts, which act as intermediaries between the human and spirit worlds, and promote health and prosperity by bringing such blessings as rain.
