Site of an Iron Age settlement and sacred enclosure which became a major religious complex in the early Roman period with a Romano-Celtic temple inside a temenos (sacred precinct) used as a periodic 'fairground'. The double-doored gateway of the enclosure faced eastwards to the rising sun. View E, 6-20am, April 1995, with silhouette of bare ash tree on the boundary between Middle Hill (L) & South Hill (R) fields. Middle Hill has been ploughed and sown.
