Buffalo Bill (1846 - 1917) was a famous American soldier, bison hunter, and showman. During a time when the Bureau of Indian Affairs was intent on promoting Native assimilation, he used his influence with US government officials to secure Native American performers for his Wild West shows. He treated Native American employees as equals with white cowboys. Lithograph on paper by Samuel S. Frizzell, undated (cropped and cleaned).
