Cursed. Candy!, Toilet Humor, 19th Century
Entitled: "Maudits. Bonbons!" shows a woman is filling a clyster; a child is sitting on a chamber pot and another child, with a look of concern on her face, appears to be attempting to hide behind the bed. Toilet humor is a type of off-color humor dealing with defecation, urination, and flatulence, and to a lesser extent vomiting and other body functions. Toilet humor is popular among a wide range of ages, but is especially popular with children and teenagers, for whom cultural taboos related to acknowledgement of waste excretion still have a degree of novelty. An enema or clyster, is a fluid injected into the lower bowel by way of the rectum. The most frequent use of an enema is as a cleansing enema (also called a soapsuds enema) which is given to relieve constipation or for bowel cleansing before a medical examination or procedure. Lithograph by Gaudissart, 19th century.
