Lung anatomy. Artwork of an anterior (frontal) view of the lungs in a male body. One lung is shown at right. The heart is not shown. Air passes into and out of the lungs through the trachea (vertical). Blood arrives at the lungs from the heart. In the lungs, the process of gas exchange with the blood adds oxygen and removes carbon dioxide. The blood is then returned to the heart and pumped around the body.
