The Head of State bronze stature, also called Seated Lincoln, is located in Chicago's Grant Park. The piece was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in his work shop in 1908 and before being placed in Grant Park in 1926 toured to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and at the San Francisco World's Fair in 1915. Though not as famous as the Standing Lincoln created by the same artist and residing in the city's Lincoln Park, this piece was created to evoke the loneliness and burden of command felt by Lincoln during his presidency. Rising in the background is a portion Chicago's north Loop skyline.
