Thereis sufiicient extra room in the sub-station for him to carryon hiswork. Thus an economy is practiced which lias been frequentlytalked of in connection with sub-station attendance, but whichis perhaps not found as often as was anticipated when distri-bution from sub-stations was first proposed. For assembling commutators Mr. Hardy has made a sectionalclamp, which is shown assembled in Fig. 2, and one of the sec-tions with sizes is also shown in Fig. i. The various sections,which are of cast-iron, dovetail into each other. When placedaround a commutator a steel ring with set screws is put aroundit, and the set screws are brought down onto each segment ofthe clamp. A similar arrangement has been for some time employedby W. W. Annable, master mechanic of the Grand RapidsRailway Company, except that the sections in Mr. A
